I loved the atmosphere. Will go back to have the tuna tartare. I had some beef thing on lettuce - it was incredibly bland and for desert I had the eclair which was stale and the cream was hardened. But the atmosphere is great and for Winterlicious they have a new menu so may check it out.
bah - i was so excited about this ( I LOVE Mark) - it was a disaster of a meal. Oily oily salad - literally lumpy mashed potato ..raw bits - no joke) - I had to send my steak back TWICE - bah (that was a horror for me to have to do ..horror). Such a bad bad meal - I can't say anything good about it - they need a new Chef de Cuissine - that's all I can say... would NOT recommend it at all...sorry Mark - I still adore you..honest.
This past Saturday, November 8th, I and a business associate from Hong Kong were truly taken aback by a wonderful evening of culinary delights and exceptional service at your exquisite Bymark restaurant. Having watched Mark McEwan on the food network these past years, I was most anxious to try one of his restaurants, and having to entertain an important associate from overseas, I wanted to impress. And impress I did, or should I say the chef and wait staff did!!!! Right from the start as we entered Bymark, we were treated like royalty. A pleasant table for two awaited us, in your beautifully and tastefully, minimalist designed space. Pre dinner drinks were ordered and arrived just in time for us to start reflecting upon our culinary choices for the evening. Our waiter, Brandon was most helpful in his suggestions for the perfect meal. I was disappointed not seeing your famous Bymark “mini burger” as an appetizer, I was looking forward to it as I had chosen a fish dish as my entrée. No problem said Brandon, I will have Chef Brooke, make a mini Bymark Appetizer for you. Wonderful! The appetizers arrived, and we were not disappointed, my 3 mini Bymark burgers were splendid, as was my associate’s soup! For our entrée’s I chose the Pan Seared day boat scallops with Dungeness crab ravioli, and buttered spinach, while my associate chose your 10oz Striploin steak with woodland roasted mushrooms. A few more glasses of wine later and our entrée’s arrived, done to perfection! I have travelled all over the world, and have never had the pleasure of tasting scallops of that size before. Even in Digby NS this past summer, I did not see anything of that size. Everything was just wonderful! The Scallops cooked to perfection, and my associate’s steak was as he likes it. To close off the evening, we had cappuccinos and a Bailey’s on the side! Congratulations to you Mark and Brooke for a wonder dining experience and to Brandon, our wonderful and attentive waiter for making the evening a truly memorable one. I have received numerous e-mails from my associate since his return to Hong Kong, and he still raves about last Saturday night’s dinner!!!!!
Impeccable service. Great place to have a nice dinner. The food was pretty good but not the best.
The presentation was increadible and the food tasted even better. I had the foie gras, mitsu black cod and creme brule and it was all great. My husband had the tuna sashimi and a steak. Also good. The sweet wine that was recommended with the foie gras was very nice even to a non drinker. The decor is very modern. The only problem was that they gave my husbands new and quite expensive coat to someone else. It was never returned. They paid for the coat of course but it still required several calls and was quite inconvenient.
Bymark has good reviews, hence we picked this for Winterlicious gathering (it was hard to book) The servers were very nice, dressed nicely The food were exactly fine dining, small-okay portion, 3-course meals (appetizer, entree, dessert), but I enjoyed every dish (except the arugula salad, felt like a cow eating raw leaf) However, I am certain I won't return paying for full regular price, but definitely for Winterlicious/Summerlicious
The decor is very nice, as well as the service. A friend hadn't finished some of the food because they were a picky eater, and the server offered other items to compensate for no charge. The food was decorated nice and tasted good, though it should be expected that the portions is small.
We received wonderful services from the restaurant. The staff is wonderful. However, we were extremely disappointed at the tasting menu w/ wine paring. The presentation of food was good. The taste was great, but not top-notch. What disappointed us most is the wine paring. Maybe it is because we are a bunch of experienced sommeliers. One cannot just add a "white wine" to fish & "red wine" to meat. It is more than that. The wine did not match well with the food, and unfortunately, this affected the taste. Too much tanin, too much acidity... At the end, we just ate our courses separately w/ the wines. In that case, the food taste wonderful. Nevertheless, the services is great.
This restaurant was the most amazing restaurant experience I have ever had! We both had the tasters menu, with paired wine. The food was the most incredible ever. They pair the wine with the food PERFECTLY! The champagned danced on my tongue with the scallop carpaccio and tomato sorbet. The wild mushroom risotto matched the earthy gamay wonderfully... Sauternes with foie gras... Pinot with oxtail ravioli and brown lobster butter.. I cannot say enough good stuff about this restaurant. Elegant dinning at its finest! Bravo!
