We purposely made a reservation at Mom's because we knew that we could get an Easter dinner at your restaurant. Ham or turkey would have been wonderful. We made our reservation early (6:30) so that we would be there relatively early. When we got there, some of the specials on the board were being erased. Those specials were: prime rib, turkey, ham. We decided to stay anyway, as we weren't sure where else we could get in. When we ordered our meals, we asked if there was any stuffing left from the turkey - we thought at least we could have a reminder of turkey dinner. We were told that yes there was stuffing left, and we all ordered some with our meals of steak and fish. The means were definitely overpriced, and not as good as we had hoped. When we received the bill, we were amazed to discover that we had been charged for the stuffing. We thought that was most inappropriate considering it would have been thrown out. We did ask to have that charge removed from the bill, and it was. Our waitress was very good, very efficient, and very patient. We have no complaint with her. The food however was disappointing. Also, running out of turkey and ham at Easter, at 6:30 in the evening, does not seem like good planning to me. Unfortunately, we will not be returning to Mom's in the future.

My friend and myself decided on Mom's for breakfast...upon entering we were told to find a table "somewhere on the left"(?!). We did and sat for a while before even were offered coffee. The food - eggs, sausages, french toast - was okay, nothing special. However, my friend decided to "add on" a pancake to her breakfast order and questioned the waitress as to how much extra this would be. For $3.99 she was assured she'd receive a huge pancake...when it came, it was nowhere near huge whatsoever - 4 bucks is totally out of line for one pancake! We also had to wait for our bill for quite a while, and yes, the ketchup came in packets 2 or 3 as I recall...???...no bottles??? I don't think we'll return here anytime soon, regardless of the Shayne Corson connection.

My son and I both ordered the whitefish and french fries. He also had garlic bread and the included soup, while I had French onion soup. It was fine, but nothing to write home about. Some of the french fries seemed to be underdone. The waitress brought only a few ketcup packs. No bottles?! I asked for more and she had forgotten. I was not impressed. With what I spent for the dinner, I did not feel that it was a good value.

Mom's is probably better known by folks outside of Barrie because of the connection it has to Shane Corson and by extension Darby Tucker than it will ever be as a result of its food. Having said that...the food they offer is of solid quality. The going trend from folks I have talked to is to try the hot sandwiches...apparently they are incredible. I tried the "schnitzle" which was surprisingly good coming from quite literally a "Mom" and Pop kind of restaurant. Another member of my party who is known to be a bit finicky was also surprisingly pleased by how the mashed potatoes tasted like mashed potatoes and were actually hot (apparently thats a chore for most places she goes). The food will never be considered to be of gourmet standards...but you know what...sometimes you just want a good old fashioned "homestyle" meal. As for the service...the last time I went it was a little on the weak side...but to be fair we did get there towards closing time and so I think they were hoping to call it an early night. They did however offer their full menu even though they were winding down, it just took a little longer to get some of the items we ordered was all.
