I visited Swiss Chalet with low expectations. My four year old son was excited about the toys they offered so we went for a quick dinner. I was pleasently surprised. We sat with a young waitress who I unfortunatly also held low expectations for. At such a young age I doubted that she knew much...however she provided us with better service than we had recieved in a chain..maybe ever. She brought our meals promptly, was attentive, we didnt need to ask for refills, and when my son spilt on himself, she cleaned it all up and even stopped his crying. The food wasn't great, but as long as you have service like that, I would be back anytime. Read more

We took our two daughters to the Keg this evening and the food was very good. Our steaks were cooked to perfection, the sides were all warm and everything was very flavourful. The kids menu, colouring items and special details (fruit/veg right away) made it a great family location. Our only issue was the service. Although they're famous for their chicken, we'll be going back for their fish (and maybe try the chicken for my 'no way I'm eating fish' husband). My son and I were looking for a quick bite for lunch after doing some shopping at the nearby Scholars Choice and found this place. Smelled soo good. As we didn't see a lot of prices or labels, my son ordered the Portuguese sausage sandwich and I lingered over the windows filled with mountains of fish, rice, potatoes and was served by a very pleasant and helpful young man. I asked about a particular dish and ended up ordering the amazing looking and super delicious cod with a side of potatoes, The server put two layers of potatoes in a good sized container, covered it with the huge portion of cod and then he began spooning a loving amount of the yummy sauce over the dish. As it really isn't a sit down place, we were hungry and ate there. I paid less than $20 and was in heaven. My son enjoyed his sausage but will definitely order the cod next time. Was surprised to read about 'grumpy' servers. Ours even thanked us for coming on our way out. Maybe because it was in the early Friday afternoon, we saw that customers were served quickly (looked like they ordered huge quantities ahead) and courteously. Definitely going back for that cod. I work in customer service, so I understand that things don't always go as planned. It is how an establishment deals with their mistakes that really shows how good they are , in my humble opinion. We go to Swiss Chalet all the time, the food is always hot and delicious and up to the Swiss Chalet Standard, the service is usually pretty good, quick for sure and the restaurant smells good and is clean. We often order take out from this location, and we have had a few problems, orders not being filled correctly, no gravy for the poutine, little things like that. One time we ordered and they called back 30 minutes later to tell us there was a snow storm and the delivery person went home! Needless to say I complained. I got a personal response from the Manager appologizing for our bad experience and comping us for two 1/4 chicken dinners! WOW, I thought that was just great. I get that mistakes are made, but I have never had anyone take responsibility and compensate me so quickly and politely! Since then we have ordered a few times and we haven't had anymore problems.
