Norm Hardie’s eponymous wines are found in restaurants around the world, but a visit to his Prince Edward County vineyard is an experience like no other. The former sommelier for Four Seasons Hotels and his team offer a selection of critically acclaimed cool climate vintages including an award-winning Pinot noir and Country chardonnay. Visit from May to September and enjoy an idyllic al-fresco lunch on the patio — the vintages pair perfectly with thin crust pizza (fired on-site in an outdoor oven). The top-notch pizza recipes come from chefs at Toronto’s renowned Pizza Libretto and Terroni.
Old-world European traditions meet innovative viticulture techniques at this vineyard. Head wine maker Deborah Paskus specializes in Chardonnay and Pinot noir grapes that are grown in a rich soil, pesticide-free environment and farmed in a sustainable manner. Tours are available by appointment (book two weeks in advance) and visitors can sample an ever-changing variety of wines in tasting flights. The dog-friendly site also includes a picnic area.
This estate winery features a 7,200-square-foot facility and barrel cellar designed with eco-conscious materials including an impressive chandelier made of dried grape vines commissioned by local artist Maggie Longword. The Tasting Room, located on the first floor of a historic barn, serves up flights of estate-grown and produced Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Gris, Riesling and Syrah. Don’t miss the 2011 Pinot Noir; the vintage recently won gold at the 2014 National Wine Awards of Canada. Visitors looking for an exclusive experience can book a private barrel tasting in the cellar with winemaker Dan Sullivan.
Lunchtime entertainment on the patio and an exceptional food menu complement the various grape varietals at this popular Prince Edward County vineyard. The award winning Cuveé, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris stand out and make the perfect pairing for chef Sebastien Schwab’s seasonally inspired dishes made with local ingredients sourced from the region’s many farms. There are various different tour packages available, whether you just want a quick glass or a full exploration of the facility and tasting menu. The on-site inn means you can sip ‘til your heart’s content without worrying about the drive home.
