Hit these Happy Hour hotspots in Vancouver's Gastown 'hood

Locals and tourists alike love Gastown, and for good reason. This neighbourhood has the Old World charm of Montreal, and is chock full of independent retailers, bars and restaurants. Enjoying the neighbourhood can come, however, with a hefty price tag. So for those looking for a quick post-work pint, or a steal of a deal while out on pub crawl with friends, check out these Happy Hour specials! [Image courtesy of Six Acres]

Six Acres

203 Carrall St, Vancouver, BC V6B 2J2

When the weather is fair (read: summer time) you can kick back and enjoy a beer, cocktail and an appetizer for truly delectable Happy Hour prices on Six Acres’ spectacular (albeit pint-sized) patio. Located directly behind Gastown’s infamous Gassy Jack statue, you’ll want to imbibe on local micro-brew beers and try your hand at the veggie sliders before heading out to explore the neighbourhood. The best thing about this Happy Hour is it begins hours ahead of the competition – at 2:30 pm.

Salt Tasting Room Ltd

2
248 Georgia St E, Vancouver, BC V6A 1Z7

Salt Tasting Room is a little under the radar when it comes to Happy Hour; this small Spanish inspired wine and charcuterie bar is tucked away along Blood Alley, meaning it’s off the beaten path for tourists and locals alike. Don’t be deterred! Happy Hour specials here include a flight of three impeccably selected wines (reds or whites) for $15, with a side of complimentary tapas from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. Expect impeccable service, splendid cheeses, and incredible cured meats each time you visit.

Nicli Antica Pizzeria

3
62 Cordova St E, Vancouver, BC V6A 1K2

Known simply as the “Half Price Pizza and Beer” deal, this offer at Nicli’s Next Door is the perfect Happy Hour combo for thirsty (and hungry) folks in Gastown. Offered daily from 3:00 to 5:00 pm, the deal explains itself: enjoy a full draught beer alongside an expertly cooked thin-crust Margherita pizza (with an onslaught of add-ons available, if you wish) for right around 10 bucks. Set aside some time (the pizza is not available to go), sit down and dig in.

The Keefer Bar

4
135 Keefer St, Vancouver, BC V6A 1X3

You can catch Happy Hour deals every day of the week (except Saturdays) at this Keefer Street cocktail bar. While the bar is technically in Chinatown, it’s only a hop-and-a-skip away from the main drag of Gastown proper. Running from 5:00 to 7:00 pm daily, the Happy Hour menu includes a special drink each night and two-for-one specials on food. The Wednesday drink feature, a rosemary gin gimlet, is a must-try for cocktail connoisseurs. Insider tip: visit on Sundays when every daily special is in effect, and go nuts!

Rodney's Oyster House

5
52 Powell St, Vancouver, BC V6A 1E7

Monday through Saturday from 3:00 to 6:00 pm is considered Low Tide at Rodney’s, and it’s the perfect time to visit for a Happy Hour indulgence! The menu features simple yet very hearty seafood fare; think $1.50 a pop for plump, fresh and expertly shucked oysters served with a suite of house-made sauces and lemon wedges. You’ll also find deals on steamed mussels, garlic shrimp, pan-fried oysters, and other seasonal seafood. Arrive early, as Low Tide at Rodney’s is a popular time at the Gastown location, and there may be a line and a short wait.

The Irish Heather

6
210 Carrall St, Vancouver, BC V6B 2J1

You’ll find incredible Happy Hour deals at the Irish Heather from 3:00 to 6:00 pm each and every day. A freshly pulled pint of Guinness, Kronenbourg 1664, or a bourbon pickleback shot (just ask) will each set you back only $5. Aperol Spritzs are also on special for only $8, so bring a date, grab a couple of drinks, and make sure to take their hearty pub menu for a spin – the Guinness pot pie is to die for.

Much in the same way that movie theatres and the scent of buttery popcorn can never be separated, hot dogs have a distinctly nostalgic element. These savoury snacks bring up memories of Little League games and beans-and-weinies at home. Thankfully there are more and more places in Vancouver serving the humble hot dog in a variety of grown-up flavours and styles. [Photo © Yellow Pages / Pages Jaunes]
It doesn’t take much to throw ghost pepper into a pot and transform a dish from “bland” to “three- alarm fire” hot. However, any true spice lover knows that when a dish is crafted to include spice – whether it’s fish simmered slowly in chili oil or crispy chicken wings lathered in Sriracha – the careful blend of savoury, salty and spicy can be a revelation. These signature spicy dishes in Vancouver are the hottest of the hot.
Your shoes have been permanently wet for weeks, you’ve just lost your iPhone to a puddle, been splashed by a truck while running for the bus, and can’t remember the last time you saw blue sky (was the sky ever blue?). It can be tough to beat the winter blues in Vancouver, but you can find some warmth, an open seat, a welcoming bar and some of the city's best comfort food in Gastown. [Photo courtesy of Six Acres]
