You’ve been working hard and you’re ready for a quick pick-me-up to get you over the next hurdle of the day. But because you’ve got no time to waste on a nap, why not refuel and give yourself an energy boost by way of a cup of coffee from one of these great cafés in Richmond.
Rocanini opens at 7:30 a.m. during the week (and 8:00 am on weekends), but if that’s not when you’re feeling bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, pop in whenever you’re ready to face the world. If you like the beans or the equipment used to make your amazing coffee, Rocanini has almost all of it for sale for at-home baristas. The coffeeshop is spacious and outfitted in industrial chic décor, and there’s plenty of bike parking outside for when your legs have woken up from a quick caffeine boost.
Steveston Coffee Co. quietly earned a reputation as being one of Richmond’s best and most under-the-radar places to get fantastic coffee. If you can’t make it down to Steveston, that’s okay because you can find their coffee in cafés scattered around the are. But if you’re close to the shop, pop in to see the magic Frank and Debbie have created. They roast and brew their own beans on site for super fresh coffee in every cup.
The inside of this popular café looks like the lovechild of an island Tiki hut and comic book store. But don’t let the funky interior deceive you, Viva Java is serious about their coffee. Owner Arti takes his job as Richmond’s master roaster very seriously. When you get a cup of coffee from him, you’ll swear you’ve died and gone to coffee plantation heaven.
Forget about foreign imports or influences – this coffee shop is entirely Canadian and first opened at Robson and Blute in 1992. Since then, they’ve expanded to include Richmond among their collection and this shop does not disappoint. The interior has a modern, futuristic look and the baristas produce wicked foam art on their matcha lattes. The 24-hour café is a great spot for night owls. When you can’t sleep, bring your laptop down and use their free Wi-Fi to catch up on work.
Make sure you keep your eyes wide open if it’s your first time visiting this Richmond café. The coffee shop is a tad hidden, but well worth the effort in finding it. Once you step inside, you’ll immediately sense a world of difference, whether it’s the mother-and-daughter team running things or the coffee that’s consistently brewed to high standards. They offer a nice selection of coffees and each one is brewed with care, and the business is socially conscious as well.
Hungry? Thirsty? Looking for a coffee place that focuses on great Joe just as much as an awesome atmosphere? We’ve got a place that ticks off all those boxes – and then some. Leisure has a warm, intimate space where any reason for visiting is the right one. The only downsides are their cash-only policy and the fact that they don’t open until midday (the name is Leisure after all). Stop by later in the day for melt-in-your-mouth tiramisu and an afternoon pick-me-up cup.
Ask anyone what their favourite thing is about Trees – besides their award-worthy coffee – and the answer is easily the cheesecake. It’s rich, creamy, smooth and full of flavour, and yes, perfectly acceptable to have with your morning coffee. Coffee is brewed in small batches, giving you a fresh taste no matter what time of day you stop in.
