Pondering a career change, Catherine Reeves decided to make a living from sculpture. “My first contact with pottery happened while I was in CEGEP, and it was love at first sight; I was always in the studio creating my own pieces and refining my technique. At one point, I had to choose between working with pottery or in the movie business. I chose the latter, and after a few years in that industry, I started questioning myself, only to reach the inevitable conclusion that I needed to come back to my roots. So I followed my heart and here I am, back in the studio,” recalls the co-owner of Studio Alexandra, the Villeray studio she operates alongside Carol Mose, Veronika Horlik and Yukari-Hazama Iverson.
“I started the studio with Carol, with whom I had studied pottery. Our workshop was downtown, in a building that eventually became condos, which forced us to relocate to our new studio, which we share with Veronika and Yukari-Hazama,” she explains. Studio Alexandra has been in operation since 2000, and specializes in the production of potteries, sculptures and artisanal decorative pieces, as well as the teaching of pottery.
