Visiting Aux Lilas on Parc Avenue is like stepping into a family home. Soft lighting and a warm, welcoming atmosphere makes this classic Lebanese restaurant at once cozy and intimate. Aux Lilas has been serving up quality Lebanese food for the citizens of the Mile End since opening in 1980. Christine Farhoud now owns the restaurant her cousin started, which seemed a logical progression since Christine was the one with cooking experience.
“I don’t know why she started the restaurant initially,” Christine reflects. “I suppose she wanted to bring the culture and cuisine of Lebanon to Montreal. To introduce it to the city.”
Christine started working at Aux Lilas in 1985 and bought the restaurant in 1993. She describes the restaurant clientele as part of her family and the quality of the food she serves for them is a point of pride. “It’s a better thing for people to eat,” she explains. “This is better than fast food, better for your health. I’m glad to provide it.”
