With an 8oz glass of Pinto Grigio costing $12.99 and Shiraz $15.99 you can forget about having a glass of wine with lunch. Half-price bottles are only practical if you have someone to share. Outrageous prices for a glass of wine.
If you like a great cozy traditional English pub you must go to this place. What a little gem tucked away on the cusp of Yorkville. Very fair prices, huge portions and super friendly staff eager to serve.
The Duke of York was one of my favourite pubs while I was at University in Toronto. The atmosphere is usually great and the food is always quite tasty. This time the food was quite good, although the pub had only 1 of its 4 floors open, so it was very crowded and really loud. There weren't many servers on either, so due to the number of customers, service was pretty lousy. I still quite like the Duke of York, and I'd go back the next time I'm in the area.
The Duke has been a fovorite of mine since I was introduced to it by my friends in the Faculty of Music 10 years ago and it keeps getting better. The staff is always a joy and the food is consistently top level. I never hesitate to bring my out of town guests to dinner at the duke because the menu has yet to dissapoint. Where else can you hang with busy law students, retired math professors, musicians and the odd visiting celeb all in a low key but fun atmosphere? Also no Yorkville shopping trip in the summer is complete without a stop on the patio for a pint!
I live in the neighbourhood and having been going to the Duke of York for brunch, lunch, appetizers and pub food for years. I have never had a bad meal - and I've tried everything from: breakfast/brunch items (my faves being the french toast, omlette of the day or steak and eggs) appetizers (faves being the stinton cheese dip, and samosas) Pub food: chicken fingers, burgers, wraps, fish & chips, indian dishes, etc The prices are fair for what you get. What inspired me to write a review is the New Year's Eve menu. I had gone 2 years ago, and the food was AMAZING. So, I tried it again this year, and again - AMAZING!! The experience wasn't without it's issues like us making a reservation, and no one seeming to know about it when we got there, great service from one server, then she left and we had terrible service. Overall though, because the food was so good, we had a positive experience. They decorated the place beautifully (with white lights, holiday spirit and special touches that it feels classy, and warm). The food on New Years was out of this world - I swear by it, and I've been to many 4-5 star restaurants - it compares to those.

Nachos, beer and thou. Such is the simple promise at this Annex standard, where the lower level plays regular host to large groups of folks in pursuit of serious revelry. An excellent selection of beers and a tradition of attentive service seal the deal.
