Church law says that a child who is under the age of 7 can be initiated into the catholic Church simply by being baptized. Once a child has completed grade 2 that is no longer true. Baptism is the first step in initiation into the Catholic church. There are 3 sacraments of initiation: Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation.
