I have eaten here many times and the food was great. My last visit however was anythiing but stellar. I arrived at just befoer 4pm and the staff was hudddled around the TV watching some Asian show haviing a great laff. I was 10 mins getting served with a menu...just as long waiting tio have my order taken and 30 mins getting my food..all the while looking at a filthy carpet, front doors covered in greasy handprints , a washroom with paper towels all over the floor...why is staf fnot keeping it clean and getting the place ready fro dinner rush? The owner isn't paying staff to watch television..and the place looked like a fillthy pig sty . Smarten up before you loose me as a customer and others...you have good food. I wonder if your kitchen is as filthy?
Finally I have found the BEST dim sum place in ottawa. I was extremely happy with the quality of the food here. The clam ha gao, char siew bao, just everything I had was delicious! I am done with Somerset. The place is also pretty big, unlike so many of those other places where you can everyone's conversation.
food was great... one of the best dimsum places in ottawa. and not as pricey actually as others said. paid $12 each... same as what you would pay in other restaurants in chinatown.

We used to order take out from the Mandarin all the time but ever since a cuple years ago I've noticed the quality and service go down. We also visit the pub next door regularly and I don't understand why the Mandarin put up that fence. Don't they realise that alot of people frequent both places.
The dim-sum is pretty good, albeit pricey and slow.
The regular menu is OK, but not as good as Chinatown and a lot more expensive.
The service is horrible all due to one server. He is male, short, stout. He also orders the other servers around so I think he is either part of the ownership or a supervisor.
We came there during the tail end of their lunch-hour so it wasn`t even terribly busy. They were serving dim-sum, but we also wanted to take a look at their regular menu. We asked him for one and he walked off without saying anything. When we asked another server for a menu, he grunted something at her. Eventually he came with one menu for our entire table.
So far, not the best of service from him, but nothing worth complaining about online yet.
After we looked over the menu, I put the menu under my arm. He came over and grabbed the menu from under my arm and walked away .... without saying anything and without taking our order!
I asked another server to grab us a menu and I placed our order with her.
But before she could write down our order with her, he rushed over and pulled her away. She said something to him in Chinese (I`m guessing explaining that she was taking our order) and he yelled something back and waved us off. That`s right, he wouldn`t take our order nor would he let anyone else take our order. That`s the first time I ever went to a restaurant where they refused to take my order!
Unbelievable; and unfortunate for the owners (if he isn`t one) and other servers because Mandarin Ogilvie has just lost myself (and those with me) as a customer. And I will complain about Mandarin Ogilvie to everyone I know.
... not that it matters, but I was there to see if I wanted to book a party there. Obviously I will not.

Best Chinese food we have ever had. There is no need to ever visit Chinatown again! Not only is the Dim Sum great but we have also had other dinner dishes. Try the General Tsao Chicken.
