The thing that still stands out to me about pepperwood is the atmosphere. It has a very Jazzy NYC vibe to it which I loved. . The food was alright... but I would definitely go back just for the atmosphere Beware their fish and chips... WAY too greasy
Took my mother here to impress her with Burlington cuisine but after especially requesting no garlic mash while our waiter tried to remember this order ...(he then came back to confirm again) ... it still came with the mash. She requested an extra Yorkshire pudding since no baked potato (they don't offer these we were informed) out came 2 extremely stale yorkshire puddings. We outlined this to our server and requested perhaps a roll or an alternative to find out the Chef hadn't ordered enough for the weekend and the whole restaurant was out of bread along with many other items, the resulting shoulder shrug and "sorry about that" was the only resolve offered. Bill arrives and expect something to compensate and turn this around given the wrong meal, lack of options and horribly stale food served, not the case. I'm no restauranteur, but serving stale food with no option or resolve to alternative I think is a bad model. Saddened to say, will never visit this establishment again based on food, service and overall experience all failed. OH: The prawn appetizer was written up very well, was excited ... fairly tasty ... they just neglected to mention it was really just 3 normal size shrimp. I'd highlight it on their online menu, however the menu is outdated and inaccurate. sad.
Well, server wasn't very attentive. Waited 15 mins before she came to our table. Meanwhile, she walked by 3 or 4 times. Without even a "be right there". Once we ordered our food she became more attentive. It wasn't even really busy at that time. Ordered the sliders for a starter and they were good fresh homemade, bun was good as well. Ordered the pear and goat cheese salad, it was pretty good (plate was too small tho so lettuce spilled over side when trying to eat) ordered the pizza thinking for almost $15 should be a good homemade..it wasn't..frozen pizza crust, tasted frozen, VERY disappointing. Why even have pizza on the menu if you are going to make it like that? why bother? The poached salmon was to my partners liking. House white wine was a nice choice, and partner LOVED the beer selection. Partly the reason we went there. Will be back, atmoshere was lovely (needs a little dusting at the booths) but will not order the pizza!
We visited Pepperwood last Thursday, food was good and service was excellent. love the selection of beer here. definately will go back for that reason alone. Menu was big, like the options for having your mussels done. Looking forward to our next visit.
My husband and I went for dinner last night. We sat in the bar. The service was very good. The bartenders were very friendly. Our food came promptly and tasted great, especially the cheese fondue. We particularly enjoyed the atmosphere, we will definately be back!
Went to pepperwood over the weekend and had a very good experience. The food was excellent and the service great as well. The place was packed, we got the last available table. Will definately be back!
Went will girlfriends and we had a great time! The food was great, our server was friendly and overall it was quite enjoyable. We loved the decor and all of us enjoyed the house brews. Will definitely go back!
We've actually eaten there three times since we moved to Burlington and when visiting - primarily because of it's location. It's been a little hit-and-miss, once we had a fantastic meal and the other times, just so/so. Never had what I would call a bad meal or experience, though. My husband had the Jerk muscels once - sauce was delicious, but the next time he tried another topping and it was very bland. I ordered the quesadillas, also very bland, but the T&T shrimp were fanstastic. I guess it depends on what you get. They o make great Bellini's and the beer is tasty from the in-house brewery.
With my mother & sister down for a visit we decided to try Pepperwood just for kicks. Wow... what a disappointment. I'm generally an easy going person, and it takes quite a bit to make me complain. Having been a waitress, and a bartender I understand what its like to be busy and short-staffed... but that doesn't explain what was wrong with their food. First, we asked to sit inside - mistake. People on the patio were served before us... WELL before us. We waited almost an hour and a half for our meal. Mum and I both had the shepherd's pie, which was more like a small bowl of beef stew with a toonie sized dollop of cold potato on top. It was so over-salted, we couldn't even get it down, and its description on the menu included the words 'root vegetables'. I saw nothin' but peas and meat. It was served with a handful of salad, that looked like the spring mix I buy at the grocery store. Our appetizer came within a reasonable amount of time, but was soggy and oily. Tempura batter should be dry, not dripping grease. Yarg! REALLY disappointing. At least the beer was good.
I have always loved this place! It's true that as they've changed chefs and servers over time the place has had it's ups and downs, but for me this place will always have a super special place in my heart! Over the years we've dined and lunched here many, many times (both as a couple, and with friends). On the last occasion there my husband and I shared a Tuscan Pizza (perfect size for sharing for a late night snack/meal). This pizza was to dies for! The bottle of Chilen Echeverria Merlot, was also perfect... The patio was full, we were with a group of people and all our drinks and dishes were served in timely fashion... everyone really this place and we're all going back! The bonus for many in our party was that they have their own brewery!
There was a time when this place was good. Seems to be far in the past. The beer is great, the patio is nice in the summer Never go for the food, the chef is an incredible hack. The menu is romanced and full of blatant lies, ie. stilton (just run of the mill blue cheese instead), Prime Rib Burger (regular ground beef, salt and pepper) Many more of these I am sure of, as well as total lack of plate on his part and overpricing. The place has become slow and they try to suck every dollar they can out of the unlucky few who come here to eat.
Gross, gross GROSS!!! this was the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant in Burlington. The placed smelled bad, the service was awful and the food was worse. Never EVER go back.
This was by far the worst restaurant experience ever. My boyfriend and I go out to eat a lot and we have always been curious about Pepperwood Bistro, we have been to their sister restaurant "Rosewood Bistro" (which was fabulous) so we figured Pepperwood would be the same. WRONG. We had horrible food and it was grossly overpriced. The restaurant smells old and dingy when you walk in, which should have been our first indication not to eat here. We will never be back and I would never recommend this place to anyone.
The food was average but so pretentious that we will never eat here again. My husband's Caesar salad with all of it's impressive 4 pieces of lettuce, small slice of pancetta and piece of crostini was unimpressive and seriously overpriced. My spinach salad was no better and our children's pizza resembled a no name frozen pizza. There are so many more great places to eat in Burlington in that we won't miss visiting this place. The location is it's only saving grace.
Nothing more than "just average" for Pepperwood. The inside was empty - everyone was dining outside, yet it took a while for someone to seat us. Slow taking our order, but the rest of the service was good. The atmosphere was very classy, clean. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating. The Caesar salad was $9 and four big leaves of lettuce. I had never seen a salad like that, but definitely not worth 9 bucks. I ordered the Quatro Fromage pizza. Not bad, but not great. Not something I'd recommend to anyone. As nice as the atmosphere was, the food and service was middle-of-the-road, which will likely keep me from visiting again.
We've been here several times for breakfast. The food is fabulous and the atmosphere is wonderfully laid back yet classy. We have had an instance of poor service which was remedied by the quick thinking and thoughtfulness of a waiter who has served us before. Live jazz/blues music on Sunday mornings give breakfast a nice, lazy feel. Just what I like on my Sundays! We've also been for dinner. The food was excellent and the service was fantastic. Definitely would return.
What began as a much-anticipated evening with friends soured upon arrival at Pepperwoods. First, we were not greeted at the door, despite the fact that the foyer was quickly filling up with diners. We had to search to find someone to seat us. While we did find someone behind the bar, they failed to make us feel welcomed. We chose our own seat and proceeded to wait to have our orders taken. We were promised they would be taken once our drinks were brought to the table. The drinks came but still we waited to order. Finally, our waitress returned and we gave her our orders. The food arrived quickly thereafter, so we know that at least the kitchen is fast. The quality of the food, however, left much to be desired. The onion soup with stilton was a huge disappointment. By comparison, the pizza that followed was an improvement but that's not saying a great deal. The evening ended quickly (why linger? sour waitress, poor food). One thing that Pepperwoods does very well - they write a good menu. Too bad the experience didn't live up to it.
First off, I'll state that the breakfast is advertised on their menu as being thin crust - it isn't. It seems like store bought thick crust. Secondly - for whatever reason, they actually water down their orange juice to the point of it tasting more like subtle flavored water than OJ. The service is abysmal. I saw many people get seated after us and get served sooner. The only good thing about the visit was the music - there was a fellow playing guitar and singing old decca jazz standards.
Overpriced for the quality of food. Great location, but that can't make up for slow service and mediocre food. Steak was overdone, pasta was bland, seafood was OK at best. Been there several times over the years, always hoping it gets better. Never awful, but never good either.
We recently visited Pepperwood Bistro and had an excellent experience!!! The food was amazing, presentation and lots of flavor. The service was knowledgable, friedly and prompt. We will be coming in again for sure!!
