In a small space (think 300 square feet!) in Vancouver's burgeoning Olympic Village, Kelli Chan has created a salon with a big heart. A hair stylist and makeup artist for over a decade, in 2013 she was motivated to start Sweet Styling Space by her experience in the industry. “I've worked in a lot of salons where clients aren't treated the way I'd like them to be treated. I wanted a relaxed atmosphere with no pretension. It's just me and you and we do things your way, whether you need to work while I'm cutting your hair or you have to bring your kids with you, we'll incorporate that into the experience.”
As well as being work- and kid-friendly, Sweet Styling Space is also pet- and eco-friendly. There's a dog bowl both outside and inside the salon, as well as treats for dogs and kids, and Kelli keeps things as green as possible. “I use ammonia-free products, I recycle everything I possibly can and we clean with greener cleaners. I carry eco-friendly and sustainable brands like Kevin Murphy, who is working towards fully recyclable packaging and sustainable processes, and if there's a less toxic solution I'll use it!”
