Robert, who was mauled by a mother grizzly while hunting near Swan Hills, was bleeding badly from his head and leg. Stapling, a medical procedure rarely performed during STARS missions, was the best way to prevent Robert, 46, from bleeding to death while en route to Grande Prairie's QE II Hospital.'They did incredible work on me to control the bleeding, keep me from going into shock and making me feel safe,' he said. Robert credits his rescue and recovery to an efficient chain reaction response by several emergency responders, which culminated with STARS flying him to hospital.
